The Island’s borders closed to all inbound international leisure and non-essential travel in March 2020 which made overseas and international travel difficult.
Although there is no set date for reopening the border, the CI Government has unveiled a five-phase reopening plan for Cayman’s borders which will allow for less restricted movement in and out of the Island to select locations on chartered repatriation flights. While transition through the phases remains dependent on the local and international Covid-19 climate, the plan put forward target dates for a return of tourism and general easing of restrictions.

Weekend trips to our conveniently close neighbouring destinations are always worthwhile and all offer something unique, such as the lush forests and diverse birdlife of Honduras and Costa Rica, the beautiful Blue Mountains of Jamaica, and the history of Cuba’s La Habana Vieja (Old Havana).

It is a good idea to check the local newspapers for holiday weekend charters. These charters can be excellent value and often take you non-stop to places like Costa Rica, which you would otherwise have to catch a flight to Miami to get to.
Currently, the only off-island destinations that are easily accessible from Cayman are Jamaica (Kingston), Honduras (La Ceiba), the USA (Miami) and the UK.
