A bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players, cricket is a much-loved team sport. Cricket is unbelievably popular in the Caribbean and Cayman even has its own dedicated cricket pitch.
Founded in 1974, the Village Greenies are one of the oldest cricket clubs in Cayman. The Greenies have teams in both the men’s first and second grade.
The season runs from January through July, with some pre-season play October to December. It is a very social club and a great place to meet people. If you are interested in playing, email: email@example.com or visit https://villagegreenies.com.
The official cricket league, Cayman Cricket, offers coaching sessions on Saturdays (December-June), and an afterschool club (March-June). For more information, email: firstname.lastname@example.org, email@example.com, or visit www.caymancricket.ky. If you don’t have your own equipment, cricket gear can be bought at Sports Supply in Galleria Plaza on West Bay Road, or certain clubs can provide kit and equipment. For more up-to-date information about upcoming cricket events and activities, visit the Cayman Parent website at www.caymanparent.com
For children there is Coach Connor's Cricket which is played in 10 week rotations with a 6-week break over Christmas. All practice and games are played indoors at the Kings Sports Centre so they are not affected by the weather. Practice happens every Thursday at 5.30pm-6.30pm for U10s and 6.30pm-7.30pm for U14s. Matches are played on Sunday from 12pm-1pm but they are by invitation only. Once you are good at cricket you will be invited to play a match! It costs CI$15 per session or you can pay for the full 10 weeks and get a discount. Email: firstname.lastname@example.org or call him on (345) 922 3080.
Most of the schools in Cayman incorporate cricket into the PE curriculum along with football, rugby, rounders/soft ball and basketball.
