A number of informal playgroups for infants and toddlers and their carers meet on a weekly basis. Read on for details of when and where they meet.
In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, many public places, parks and playgroups have been forced to close, change locations or reschedule activities for a later date. A number of playgroups for toddlers and teenagers meet on a weekly basis. The South Sound Community Centre Playgroup is a volunteer-based organisation which provides a much-needed service for parents. They meet from 9.30am-11.30am every Monday morning throughout the year. All children, from a few days old to five years, are welcome so long as they are accompanied by an adult. The cost is CI$8 per family which includes access to numerous toys, a craft activity and light refreshments.
Please note that, as the South Sound Community Centre is currently being used as a COVID-19 Testing Facility, the location where the playgroup meets is subject to change weekly. George Town Library also hosts a free Children’s Story Time from 10.30am-11.15am every other Saturday. Suitable for ages 0-5 years old. For dates call (345) 949 5159 or visit their Facebook page.
The Little Explorers Playgroup, run by the National Trust, is an early childhood development and education initiative that provides accessible and natural play experiences. It is held between 9am-11am on Wednesdays over three 12-week terms: January-March, April-June and September-November. The cost is CI$100 per child per term or CI$10 per drop in class. The first drop in class is free.
For children up to 7 years of age, Motions Unlimited (Tel: (345) 749 8365) runs Toddler Play Day sessions on Thursdays and Fridays, 10.30am-12pm and Saturdays 8.30am-10am. A package of 10 visits (required to be purchased at the moment) costs CI$150 for one child and CI$250 for two children (note: any participant who does not have a 10 visit package will be temporarily removed from the play day until proof of payment has been provided). Payment must be made at least 24 hours in advance. You must register with them online or over the phone before you and your child may attend.
Yoga Sprouts specialises exclusively in yoga classes for children, toddlers and babies. They run Peace Baby Yoga classes for ages 8 weeks-crawlers, which involves gentle guided movement, massage and song and Tots Yoga which incorporates yoga poses, free exploration, songs and rhymes and sensory activities. Suitable for ages 12 months – 2.5 years. They also offer birthday parties and special events such as Girls’ Nights Out.
